History

The Newcastle Wildflower Nursery was first established by Phil Congdon in 1984 at Bennett’s Green. The nursery was at this location for 5 years before Phil purchased the property at 260 Lake Road, Glendale and created the nursery as it is today. A lot of work needed to be done before the nursery was ready. This included installing large underground water tanks, building the shade house and a number of retaining walls as well as creating a space suited to an 8-car car park. Phil continued to run the nursery for a number of years and the nursery started to become well-known to the area.

Leearne & Terry

In 2001 Phil offered one of his long-standing employees, Leearne, to take over ownership of the nursery. By November that year Leearne and her husband Terry became the new owners of the Newcastle Wildflower Nursery. As the years went by the nursery gained lots of loyal customers and has become well-known as the go to place for a huge range of healthy native Australian plants. The quality of stock is largely due to the relationships developed between Leearne and Terry and our suppliers, many of which have been supplying the nursery for well over a decade.

Dylan & Hayley

In mid 2019, Leearne and Terry had decided to pass the torch onto their daughter, Hayley, and son-in-law, Dylan. Though not quite ready to completely retire, Leearne and Terry are still helping at the nursery at least once a week. The day-to-day operations are looked after by Dylan, Leearne and Abbie, with Hayley helping behind the scenes and Terry driving the nursery truck. Dylan and Hayley are committed to providing the same level of service and quality of product that all our loyal customers love when visiting the nursery, whilst still making a few changes here and there along the way. We are so proud to be able to keep this business in the family as we have a genuine passion for providing native plants to the community. We are grateful to every customer for allowing us to do what we love.
